Build practical capability

Make AI useful in the work you already do.

This practical experience focuses on thoughtful, repeatable uses of AI across planning, communication, analysis, and team support.

Discover practical ways to use AI to save time, improve communication, organize information, and support better project decisions. Participants leave with repeatable techniques they can apply to everyday project work.

What you will learn

Course learning objectives

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

1

Design reusable prompts

Specify purpose, context, role, constraints, examples, and output format; improve instructions when the result misses the need.

2

Structure planning and research

Turn messy inputs into a draft plan, research questions, assumptions, and source checks.

3

Improve meetings and communication

Draft agendas, summaries, follow-ups, and stakeholder messages, then adapt them to the audience.

4

Analyze options and risks

Use AI to compare alternatives and surface risks while distinguishing evidence from assumptions.

5

Evaluate output quality

Check accuracy, completeness, tone, and source support before using or sharing an AI-generated result.

6

Build a repeatable work habit

Combine instructions, inputs, review steps, and a next-use plan for one recurring professional task.

What you will do

Apply the methods to practical work

Work through project notes, planning questions, and stakeholder messages. Compare draft outputs, trace important claims to their sources, adapt language for an audience, and refine a personal workflow with explicit human review.

Techniques you will practice

Structured prompting: Use context, constraints, examples, and a clear output format to make requests repeatable.

Iterative refinement: Compare drafts, identify what failed, and revise one instruction at a time.

Source and assumption checks: Separate supported claims, uncertain information, and questions requiring human investigation.

Audience adaptation: Change emphasis, detail, and tone for different stakeholders without changing the underlying facts.

Quality-control checklists: Define what you must inspect before a result enters a real work process.

How the course is structured

Demonstration, guided practice, testing, and improvement

The course moves through the stages below. Instructor demonstrations and guided activities lead into participant application, critique, and a practical next-use plan.

  1. Frame the task

Identify where AI helps or slows a recurring task and set responsible-use boundaries.

  2. Demonstrate a prompt system

See how context, examples, constraints, and iteration change the output.

  3. Practice planning and research

Structure sample information and check the evidence behind the draft.

  4. Apply to communication

Create and critique meeting outputs and stakeholder messages.

  5. Compare and challenge

Use an analysis example to expose assumptions, risks, and weak reasoning.

  6. Build your workflow

Combine reusable instructions and a review checklist; identify the next task on which to try them.

Choose an approach that fits your experience

Begin with a guided professional task and plain-language prompts. If you already use AI, challenge the same workflow with incomplete or conflicting inputs and more demanding quality checks. Coding is not required.

Use a sample or anonymized work situation. Keep confidential information out of shared tools, verify AI-generated claims, and retain human judgment over consequential decisions.
